Located atop Griffith's Scenic Hill, the nine megalitre drinking water tower is brought to life with a striking mural by renowned mural artist Heesco. Incorporating themes of water, multiculturalism, agriculture, manufacturing, and Indigenous heritage, this eye-catching artwork celebrates Griffith's rich and diverse community. With so much fresh produce being grown in this area, the top-down view of a kitchen bench covered in food shows connection of people from different cultures. The goanna, the trail marks and the three main rivers in the area [the Wambool (Macquarie), the Calare (Lachlan), and the Murrumbidgee] represent the local Indigenous community. The 9ML Drinking Water Reservoir on Scenic Hill was constructed circa 1950. Visitors are encouraged to use the Pioneer Park carpark for viewing this impressive artwork. For the safety of all, everyone is reminded to be aware of their surroundings and to stand well clear of the road when taking photographs of the mural.

Hermit's Cave and Scenic Lookout

Hermit's Cave Lookout is well worth a visit - perched high on the ridge of Scenic Hill, part of the McPherson Ranges, it offers a fabulous view across irrigated farmland to the Binya Hills and Cocoparra National Park in the distance. Hermit's Cave, located beneath the lookout, was once the home of Valerio Ricetti, a miner from Broken Hill who lived the life of a hermit in his cave on Scenic Hill for many years. A keen gardener, Valerio transformed the rocky escarpment and created dry-stone walls, paths and stone steps creating access to areas that he called, the Garden, the Chapel and the Main Cave. The walls of the Main Cave feature paintings of small daisies, created by Ricetti. The living areas and stone walls are marked on the storyboard and form part of a signed heritage trail/walk. Please ensure you are wearing appropriate walking shoes and are physically fit for the trail. This walking track is not suitable for individuals with limited mobility. Call by the Griffith Tourism Hub for a copy of the Hermit's story and Heritage Trail brochure.

At the Museum you will find photos, audio and DVD resource material, stories, clothing, weapons and other military artefacts. After WWII the returned soldiers, sailors, airmen and their families expressed a wish to establish a fitting memorial to those who served. It has only been possible to establish the museum because of their and their offspring's commitment to remember the sacrifices that were made during the time of war. This modern sculpture has replaced the original monument, which was erected by the Griffith Rotary Club and unveiled by his excellency, The Governor of New South Wales, Sir Roden Cutler on 4th August 1966.

Soldier Settlers Memorial

When the Great War ended in 1918, many returning troops faced the uncertainty and dangers of coming home to no work or a place to live. Soldier working camps were established in Griffith, where over 1000 ex-servicemen worked to clear virgin scrub and prepare the land to be granted as irrigation farms. The Soldier Settlers Memorial commemorates these soldiers who settled in the district after World War I, as well as the sons of soldier settlers who died in service or were killed in action in World War II. The bronze statue, crafted by Griffith resident Charlie Beltrame, depicts a farmer in remnants of a World War I uniform, with one hand on a plough and the other handing a rifle to his son in World War II uniform, as the latter takes up arms for Australia as his father had before him. The Soldier Settlers Memorial is centrally located in the central business district on Banna Avenue, across from the post office.
