Barmouth Beach

George Bass first landed at Barmouth Beach on 18 December 1797, seeking shelter from a gale. He travelled up Pambula River and marvelled at the beauty of the place. Since then, thousands of visitors have been inspired by the scenic views, whale watching and birdwatching around picturesque Merimbula Bay, on the spectacular NSW Far South Coast. Located at the river mouth of Pambula, this family-friendly picnic spot is perfect for a leisurely lunch, with great swimming for the little ones. It’s also ideal for beach fishing, with salmon and tailor in the surf, and bream further up the river. The still water offers great canoeing opportunities and sea kayakers are often seen around the area. Wildlife abounds in this area, so look for sea eagles, oystercatchers, whales and dolphins. From here, step out along the moderate walking track to Haycock Point.

Barna Mia Native Animal Sanctuary

Natural Attractions

Barna Mia Native Animal Sanctuary

Barna Mia is an animal sanctuary with a difference. Nestled in the heart of Dryandra Woodland, south-east of Perth, Barna Mia is a place to discover threatened native marsupials in a natural setting and experience the wonders of the woodland. Once the sun has set the action begins. A tour guide takes visitors on a delightful journey through the sanctuary. With the guides special torches, you can see threatened native animals such as bilby, woylie, mala, quenda and boodie. Many of Western Australia's native mammals have been eradicated from their former habitats because of predation by cats and foxes, cleared vegetation and changed fire regimes. Preservation of Dryandra's 28,000 hectares of bushland enabled several native species to survive. Tours operate several times per week beginning after sunset. Actual start times vary seasonally. Please visit the website for more information. Tourists are advised to check for alerts and road/park closures before commencing their travel on www.emergency.wa.gov.au and https://alerts.dbca.wa.gov.au

Barnbougle Dunes

Barnbougle Dunes

Barnbougle Dunes is a links golf course with breathtaking views near Bridport, north-east Tasmania. The dramatic scenery and challenging 18-hole championship course is among the best links courses worldwide. The layout is a mix of voluptuous dunes, sandy waste and rough typical of a links course. The same blend of fescue grass extends from tee to green, and there is dramatic movement in its bumpy fairways and rolling greens. This is best exemplified by the outward nine, which plays through a series of saddles that both shelter and direct play lines. The back nine is striking with multiple panoramas of the course, adjoining the bay and the town of Bridport in the distance. Enjoy the par-71 design which does not require brute strength, but allows you to exert power to an advantage at certain points. No matter what your ability, this course lends itself well to strategy and plotting a suitable path. There is a driving range, putting green and chipping green with bunkers for you to hone your technique. At the end of the day enjoy the spectacular public clubhouse or stay in the Barnbougle cottages. Barnbougle Dunes is approximately a one-hour drive north-east of Launceston (83 km).

Barooga Botanical Gardens

Parks and Gardens

Barooga Botanical Gardens

On 1 October 1992, the Rotary Club of Cobram met to consider establishing the Barooga Botanical Gardens on the old cricket ground. The proposal was approved, and a committee of local residents was formed to explore options for the neglected Crown land. Barooga Rotarian Geoff Brentnall became the inaugural president, with Daryl Yeaman as secretary and Norm Wright among eleven committee members. The site was an unsightly gully in need of complete transformation. Funds were raised to engage local landscape designer Vanessa Ranken to prepare plans, while Yeaman's legal expertise supported negotiations with Berrigan Shire Council. Volunteers from Barooga and Cobram, supported by the Cobram Barooga Rotary Club, cleared the six‑acre site. Gravel paths were laid with material from the Tocumwal quarry, and local contractors donated time and equipment. Two historic palms were transplanted from Seppelt's vineyard, a cedar tree from the Barooga P.S. yard, and further plantings followed. Numerous community groups contributed funds for trees and irrigation. The Gardens were officially opened on 1 November 1993 by local MP Jim Small, Berrigan Shire Mayor Heather Wilton, and Vanessa Ranken. In 1994, further funding enabled BBQ areas, a toilet block, and electricity. Today, the Gardens reflect the vision and dedication of Brentnall, Yeaman & Wright. Entirely volunteer‑maintained and supported by a plant stall every Tuesday 9am–11am, preserved as a peaceful space for special occasions.
