Melbourne Steam Traction Engine Club

The Melbourne Steam Traction Engine Club operates a vintage engine museum set in six hectares of parkland in the south eastern suburb of Scoresby. In all, there are several hundred engines and related exhibits housed in a number of exhibition sheds around the grounds. Steam exhibits include traction engines, among them a pair of massive Fowler Z7 steam ploughing engines, steam rollers, portable engines and a large and varied collection of industrial and marine stationary steam engines and pumps. There is a period workshop and a diesel engine section. You are unlikely to see a comparable display of large diesel generators elsewhere. There are displays of tractors, agricultural equipment and early road working and earth moving machinery and a working Blacksmith shed. An added attraction for the kids is the miniature railway which operates every Sunday. The one kilometre miniature railway track circuits the grounds. The museum is open for static display each weekend but most of the engines are in running order and on the last Sunday of the month a selection can be seen in operation on our Run Day. The grounds are attractively laid out with a lake, barbecues and a shady picnic areas.

Museum of Australian Photography (MAPh)

The Museum of Australian Photography (MAPh; formerly Monash Gallery of Art/MGA) is the Australian home of photography. It champions Australian artists and inspires audiences to embrace, explore and value photography. It engages local, national and international audiences in arts and cultural experiences through its high-calibre exhibitions, prizes and programs. With an ambitious schedule, MAPh stages four large exhibitions, including one major art prize, each year. The Bowness Photography Prize has emerged as an important annual survey of contemporary photography practice in Australia and one of the most prestigious prizes in the country. More recently, the MAPh Foundation has partnered with Kee Wong to establish the Wai Tang Commissioning Award; MAPh members also have the opportunity to enter the annual 'LOOK!' Prize. A range of innovative and stimulating public programs and special events are held in conjunction with exhibitions, including artist talks, guided tours for schools and community groups, and concerts. The original part of the MGA building was designed by internationally renowned architect Harry Seidler. It remains the only formal art gallery space designed by Seidler. Situated in landscaped grounds with a sculpture park, and stunning views of the Dandenong Ranges, MAPh occupies a landmark site once home to an early homestead.
