His teachers, husband-and-wife team Thomas and Sarah Wall, delivered the Irish National Schools Curriculum, which was then regarded as the best in the Western world. Black Caviar Statue

On 24 October 2013, history was created when Nagambie became home to the life size bronze statue of the world famous mare Black Caviar. The champion mare is the fastest horse in the world, undefeated in all her 25 races. Black Caviar was born on 18 August 2006 at Gilgai Farm in Nagambie, Victoria. She grew up on the Goulburn River property and then went to Swettenham Stud in December 2007 for a ten-week yearling preparation. She was then sold on behalf of breeder Rick Jamieson to her owners, a syndicate of five couples. Black Caviar was trained by Peter Moody and ridden by jockey Luke Nolen in 22 of her 25 wins. The mighty mare, affectionately known as 'Nelly' retired on 17 April 2013 and moved to Peter Moody's stud farm in Scone New South Wales, where she gave birth to 11 foals. Unfortunately, she passed away shortly after giving birth to her 11th foal on 17 August 2024, one day short of her 18th birthday, the foal also passed away shortly after. Black Caviar transcended racing to become a household name. Everybody, even if they didn't follow horseracing, knew who Black Caviar was. In 2012 she was named 'Sportswoman of the Year'; she graced the front cover of Vogue and met Queen Elizabeth 11. Vale Black Caviar - the world's most popular racehorse.

Murchison Ossario

During World War II, 4000 Italian, German and Japanese Prisoners of War were detained at Murchison. Those who died at Murchison were buried in the local cemetery but floods in 1956 did major damage to the graves. The Italian families in the municipality were persuaded by Luigi Gigliotti to pay for the building of a mausoleum - the Ossario. Luigi also convinced authorities to bury all the Italian Prisoners of War and detainees who died in Australian prison camps in the mausoleum. The Ossario is the home of mass celebrations each year around the time of Remembrance Day. The mausoleum, completed in 1961, is in Italian style. It is built of Castlemaine stone with Roman roof tiles, a campanile and an altar of Italian marble. Each year, on Remembrance Day, mass is celebrated before a large gathering. There is also an Italian war memorial and chapel. Elsewhere in the cemetery is the grave of King Charles Tattambo, the leader of the Goulburn tribe at the time of white arrival. He died in 1866. His son (the next leader) and widow were buried adjacent in 1874.

Calder Woodburn Memorial Avenue

In 1942 Calder Woodburn's Hampden bomber aircraft and crew were lost when returning from a night mission over the coast of France. His father, Mr James Louis Fenton (Fen) Woodburn, wanted to develop an avenue in honour of the fallen. Planting by Mr Woodburn began in 1945 in consultation with the Country Roads Board, the local RSL branch and two local shires. Planting continued until 1949. Mr Woodburn consulted with families of deceased servicemen to arrange for trees in their honour to be sited nearest the home of each one. Name plates were commissioned and installed, marking the trees of 110 men. Calder Woodburn Memorial Avenue is Australia's longest Eucalypt Memorial Avenue, spanning almost 20 kilometres and including more than 2400 native trees. It is significant for commemorating all those who served in World War II from Shepparton and surrounding areas and for being planted by one man, Fen Woodburn. The rest area featuring the RSL Monument can be accessed from the northbound carriageway of the Goulburn Valley Highway approximately 20 kilometres south of Shepparton. The monument explains the Calder Woodburn Memorial Avenue and bears the names of all local servicmen who lost their lives in World War II.

Murchison Heritage Centre

The Murchison Museum showcases the varied local history of Murchison and District. Murchison is the oldest European settlement on the lower Goulburn Valley. Its recorded history began in 1838 when the first of many pastoralists Hawden and Bonney, traversed the site on their epic cattle droving journey to Adelaide. Prior to this, the land had been occupied by the Ngurai-illum tribe of Aboriginals. A reliable river punt crossing, then the first town bridge built in 1871 ensured the future growth of the town. Construction of the Trust pumping site near the town in 1885 and later the Goulburn Weir saw the beginning of irrigation. Many civic-minded residents worked to build a vibrant community in the ensuing years and many of it's sons left for active service in the World Wars. During World War II the town serviced nearby prison camps. Murchison gained notoriety in 1969 when an ancient meteorite, now known as the Murchison Meteorite, fell on the town. Many substantial facilities for sporting and cultural pursuits have been developed in the town through the years due to the efforts of dedicated and community minded residents.
