Tulip Top Gardens

As showcased on the Better Homes and Gardens television show, spring at Tulip Top Gardens is a blissful haven that is a must-see. Acres of stunning world-class gardens framed by weeping willows, and 1000 blossoms, paint the scene for almost a million tulips, daffodils and other flowers creatively planted. Enjoy free entertainment on selected days. Free tea or instant coffee is available from their garden cafe along with a range of hot and cold food options. Tulip Top Gardens pancake parlour set at the base of the lookout in the gardens produces aromatic coffee and sensational Dutch pancakes with a range of toppings. The event is pooch-friendly, just have doggie bags ready and have your pooch on a lead. There are some containers and bore taps available for drinking water. As you wander the gardens, be mesmerised by the natural habitats of Tulip Top Gardens (birds, frogs and more) along with their hand-selected piped music. Spend time in the gift shop, tasting local wines for free or enjoy the live entertainment or creative arts workshops. Alpaca Magic

Zoos, Sanctuaries, Aquariums and Wildlife Parks

Alpaca Magic

Alpaca Magic Stud began in 1997 with just a couple of alpacas. Not long after they bought some llamas and began their Llama Magic Stud. They were one of the first Llama Studs in NSW, and are now one of the largest llama breeders in Australia. They have around 100 llamas and 100 alpacas, as well as miniature and small English Donkeys and miniature Galloway Cows. Located just 20 minutes north of Canberra, with easy access and parking, providing one of a kind animal encounters. Unlike many other farms, the events take you up close and personal with the animals. Rather than just feeding them over a fence, you’ll be right in amongst them - close enough for cuddles and selfies. Visitation is by event booking only. They host a range of events every weekend, from Llama Experience (walk a llama) to Conversation with Cows, so there is guaranteed to be something for everyone.

Mulligans Flat Geoheritage Trail: Where Geology and Culture Connect

Most Canberrans know Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary for its wildlife and conservation success stories. A new self-guided Geoheritage Trail reveals an even older story—one that stretches back 430 million years. The free self-guided 7-kilometre trail reveals the ancient stories hidden beneath the woodland that was once a tropical marine world long before the dinosaurs existed. Explore seven interpretive stops that connect fascinating geological features with Ngunnawal cultural heritage, unique ecosystems, and the history of European settlement. Along the way, uncover evidence of a tropical coral reef that once covered Canberra, discover fossils of ancient marine creatures, learn how volcanic activity and tectonic forces shaped the landscape, and see how geology influences the ecosystems and waterways of the Sanctuary today. The trail also highlights the enduring connection of the Ngunnawal people to Country through their use of local stone and ochres for tools, trade and cultural practices. Suitable for walkers, families, school groups and nature enthusiasts, the trail combines science, culture and storytelling in an engaging outdoor experience. Visitors can explore at their own pace using interpretive signage and QR-code linked online resources while enjoying the Sanctuary's nationally significant woodland environment and abundant wildlife.

Michael Armstrong Studio

Michael Armstrong Studio is a solo art & gallery. Michael Armstrong (Mike) is one of Australia's most benevolent, intuitive, technical and innovative artists. Deliberate and detailed in his distinct personal style, Mike is renowned for his nude female figures, metaphorical portraits of veterans, alluring paintings, and dynamic sketches. Mike's work expresses individual qualities. Hinting at an enigma, he brings together personal elements that vacillate between beauty and realism. Using layering and tactile substances, Mike ignites the viewer's curiosity with suggestions of movement, embodiment and veiled meaning. With the ability to evoke emotion and create mesmerising and meaningful allegories, Mike has been a finalist in many prestigious art prizes, and his works are held in numerous public and private collections in Australia and overseas. In his art practice, Mike has developed distinct themes and a unique style for creating art from life. Best known for his nude portraits of veterans and friends, Mike's practice has also extended to figurative sculpture in bronze and resin, bringing his work to life. Mike's original paintings, drawings (prints and original works) and unique sculptures are available to view by appointment.
