Harbour Masters Park - Stansbury

The Harbour Masters Park is situated next to the Stansbury Jetty and overlooks the picturesque Oyster Bay. The initial garden was designed to educate people on the types of native plants best suited to the local coastal conditions and was achieved by a collaboration between the Stansbury Progress Association, Stansbury Tidy Towns Group, District Council of Yorke Peninsula, Dalrymple Lions Club and the Stansbury Primary School. The area is now a lovely picnic area, with native plants, walking paths, views of the Stansbury Jetty & Oyster Bay, memorial plaques and public toilets. Shopping and Markets

Peninsula Records and Books

Peninsula Records and Books is an independent record shop and bookshop in Stansbury, South Australia, on the east coast of the Yorke Peninsula. It is around two hours' drive from Adelaide, twenty minutes from Edithburgh, and a few minutes' walk from the Stansbury foreshore. The shop sells brand new vinyl records across every era, second-hand vinyl that has been cleaned and play-tested, and brand new books. The books are the latest fiction and non-fiction, current bestsellers, and picture books and board books for kids and babies. Australian authors and Australian artists sit front and centre rather than in a section at the back. There are also puzzles, games and gifts. Records and books under one roof is not a common combination on the Yorke Peninsula, and neither is an afterthought here. The shop is a converted stone garage on Weaver Street, run by Kate and Neil, who moved to Stansbury permanently and will happily talk to you about any of it. Second-hand vinyl is in-store only. New vinyl and books ship Australia-wide from the online store. Open Saturday to Tuesday, 10am to 3pm, including Mondays and Tuesdays when much of the peninsula is shut. Worth the detour.

Oyster Bay - Stansbury

The protected coastline adjacent to the town of Stansbury is known as 'Oyster Bay'. Prior to Stansbury being dedicated and named by Governor Musgrave in 1873, the actual town was also known as 'Oyster Bay'. During the 1800s, fishing vessels would often travel from Adelaide, across the Gulf of St Vincent, to harvest native oysters from the rich waters surrounding the area. Oyster Bay is now home to two Oyster Leases - Pacific Estate Oysters and Southern Yorke Oysters. Both oyster farms produce the widely known and commonly eaten Pacific Oyster, but have also reintroduced the native Australian Oyster back to the local waters. If you consider yourself an oyster connoisseur, the native oyster is well worth tasting.

Stansbury War Memorial

The Stansbury War Memorial was originally located in front of the Stansbury Institute on Weaver Street. In 1922, when the Memorial Rooms were erected at the front of the Institute, one of the Moreton Bay Fig ‘Memorial Trees’ was relocated to the foreshore, where the Stansbury War Memorial is located today. For many years, the remembrance tradition involved a parade of veterans marching from the Stansbury Institute, to the Memorial Tree to line up in front of a plaque – which is still located next to the tree today. In 1999, a new War Memorial was constructed including a large granite plaque listing Actions in which soldiers from the Stansbury area served. In February 2019, the War Memorial was again upgraded, this time to include a limestone wall and two bronze plaques listing Those Who Served in WWI and WWII. These new plaques now mark the entrance of the Stansbury War Memorial.

The design showcases Wool Bay's natural beauty, featuring local flora and fauna—a vivid green parrot, flowering natives, and a watchful gecko. It also honors the Narungga First Nations people with symbolic elements, including the ethereal "Women in the Clouds", a graceful tribute to female strength, wisdom, and ancestral presence. Port Vincent Water Tower Mural

Port Vincent Water Tower: A Story of Resilience and Community The Port Vincent Water Tower has been reimagined as a vibrant visual storybook, weaving together the town's past, present, and future with hope and creativity. Painted over three weeks in April–May 2021, this striking mural is the work of acclaimed artist Joel Van Moore (Vans the Omega) and Camillo Delgado, with intricate brushwork by assistant artist Jasmine Crisp. The mural wraps the tower in layers of local identity and meaning. At its core, a swan soars as a symbol of resilience and the future vision of First Nations culture. Surrounding it are scenes that bridge generations: a Narungga boy spear fishing in the shallows, honoring Indigenous ties to Country, and a local farm boy fishing with his dog, reflecting the town's agricultural roots and laid-back lifestyle. Above, the sparkling sea is dotted with sailing yachts, while the historic Port Vincent Wharf, framed by pine trees, and the iconic ketch Hawk ground the mural in a strong sense of place. Barley crops and tidal sands further celebrate the land's bounty and the rhythms of life here. This inspiring project was made possible through the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) and SA Water's Community Partnership Program, in collaboration with the Port Vincent Progress Association. A towering testament to art, heritage, and community spirit!

Historic Clan Ranald Shipwreck Graves

Step back in time and uncover one of South Australia's most poignant maritime stories – the wreck of the SS Clan Ranald. You can explore the full history at the Edithburgh Museum, then visit the graves of those who lost their lives, paying tribute to a tragedy that left a lasting mark on this small coastal community. In January 1909, the turret deck steamship Clan Ranald, heavily laden with wheat and flour from Port Adelaide and bound for South Africa, was wrecked off Troubridge Hill. Shifting cargo and rough seas caused the ship to capsize, taking 40 lives. Of these, 36 bodies were recovered – five officers and 31 'Lascar' sailors from India and the Philippines. Despite the challenges of the time, the people of Edithburgh showed great compassion, ensuring every sailor was given a respectful burial in the town cemetery. Today, the Edithburgh Cemetery remains a place of reflection and remembrance. It is open at all hours, allowing visitors to quietly wander among the headstones, reading the names and imagining the lives behind them. This is more than a shipwreck story – it's a reminder of bravery, loss, and the enduring kindness of a close-knit community.
