Morialta Conservation Park

Natural Attractions

Morialta Conservation Park

For over 100 years, the gorges, waterfalls and woodlands of Morialta have provided a recreational escape for walkers and rock climbers just 10km from the city of Adelaide. Enjoy the rugged ridges, gully scenery and seasonal waterfalls that make up Morialta Conservation Park. The three waterfalls along Fourth Creek are popular features of the park and are linked by an extensive network of walking trails. The views from the rock climbing zone also provide opportunities to admire Morialta Gorge and the nearby Adelaide plains. The first two falls are the grandest, each cascading over sheer quartzite cliffs after rain. To see the falls at their best, visit the park during spring or winter when the water flow is strongest. For wildlife lovers, the park's rock pools and creeks provide habitat for small reptiles, frogs and birds. Watch out for honeyeaters and thornbills among the woodlands that cover the hills. Adelaide’s biggest playground 'Mukanthi' can be found in the Stradbroke Road picnic area. There are five play areas to explore: Frog Island, Eagle’s Perch, Great Snake, Bird Nests, climbing boulders, paths and climbing trees. The playspace has a focus on natural materials and experiences to challenge a range of ages.

International Rose Garden

The award-winning International Rose Garden takes visitors on a heady journey that's a delight to the senses. As you wander around the garden you're drawn through a series of colourful, fragrant spaces, each cleverly revealing a rose collection from a different style of garden. The overall structure and geometry includes a sunken garden, a circular garden and several pergolas, in perfect visual counterpoint to the adjacent glass conservatory. The garden displays over 2,700 roses and more than 350 rose cultivars, while mixed companion plantings add lots of vivid seasonal colour. There are areas devoted to Australian bred roses, single roses, heritage roses and pillar roses and much more. As you saunter under a tunnel of climbing rose arches, you will find a beautiful display of roses selected for specific Australian causes (e.g. the Leukaemia Foundation). The garden is also home to the National Rose Trial Garden, which tests roses not yet commercially available in Australia. In October 2022, the World Federation of Rose Societies gave it an Award of Garden Excellence, a title enjoyed by just four other gardens in Australia. View it at its best in October-November when the first flush of the season is in full bloom, and again in April for the autumn flush. Visit any time throughout summer and you will be treated to a beautiful experience too.
