There is more than one version of the 'pepper tree story'. However, it is possible this tree was planted in 1878 from peppercorns collected by Bookpurnong Station boundary rider William Charles Loxton. William Loxton lived at this site from 1878 to 1881 when the area was known as 'Loxton's Hut'. This eventually became the town of Loxton.

Many regional towns boast large scale artworks rendered on the walls of their wheat silos. The Loxton Community Futures Inc. figured that "bigger ain't always better". And so was born an innovative new 'canvas' for community art … The Mini Silo Art Trail. Local artist Jarrod Loxton was commissioned to paint seven sections of concrete pipe with stunning images of local wildlife. The concrete pipes are a collection of dis-used irrigation sumps and pipework, hence the project has been titled RE-CYCLE…RE-USE…RE-PURPOSE. These mini silos are located in the Loxton Community Conservation and Heritage Park at the west end of Bookpurnong Terrace. Local residents and community groups have sponsored the cost of each mini silo. The artwork includes Kookaburras (sponsored by the Community Centre), a Monarch butterfly (sponsored by Robert Fielke), a pair of cute possums (sponsored by Grenfell and Slavka Koch), a blue-face honeyeater (sponsored by Evelyn Obst), and Kangaroos (sponsored by the Senior Citizens).

Lopped Aleppo Pine trees provided the opportunity for the trunks to be sculptured into public art. Riverland artist Tim Baulderstone was commissioned to carve the sculptures, shaping and carving the trunks with a chainsaw and an angle grinder. Designs, concepts and clay models were created prior to carving. Wander the path through the conservation park and see for yourself these 16 incredible tree carvings, including a frill-necked lizard, sulphur-crested cockatoo, goanna, eagle and a possum.
