Soldiers’ Riots Blue Plaque

Visitors can discover the stories behind the people, places and events that have helped shape NSW - where the history happened. A Blue Plaque visit offers more than sightseeing. It creates a direct connection between place and story, turning everyday locations into places of discovery. Each plaque reveals a unique piece of history, encouraging visitors to explore local areas from a new perspective and uncover stories they may never have known. This blue plaque commemorates the Soldiers' Riots on Valentine's Day 1916, where soldiers from a number of training camps in the Liverpool area rioted in protest of their conditions. The riots caused widespread damage, injury, and the death of a recruit, and led to the introduction of 6pm closing in NSW hotels, a law which lasted for almost 40 years. Visit the blue plaque at Liverpool Station, Bigge St, Liverpool NSW 2170 and scan the QR code there to learn more.

Landmarks and Buildings

St Mary the Virgin Anglican Church

St Mary the Virgin Denham Court, was originally built in 1838 as a private chapel in memory of Richard and Christiana Brooks of "Denham Court". Richard Brooks died in 1833 having been gored by a bull. Christiana died shortly after in 1835. The church building was erected over their graves The building was modelled on and named after the church building in the English village of Denham. It was designed by the prominent architect John Verge and built in the "Early Regency Gothic Style". It was completed by the Brooks' daughter, Christiana Blomfield. It was consecrated on August 25, 1838 by Bishop Broughton and was "staffed" by clergy from St Luke's Liverpool. The Bell Tower has a bell from the convict ship the "Earl St. Vincent". The original rectory was built in 1846 and the Parish of Denham Court was established. The building has been restored a number of times since being built most recently in the early 1990's. Denham Court is currently a Provisional Parish and the home of a growing congregation.

The Dairy

Natural Attractions

The Dairy

The Dairy is a peaceful area in Western Sydney Parklands, and a place for a peaceful picnic with views from its hilltop location. The Dairy, at Cowpasture Road and RestwelI Road, Abbotsbury is, as its name suggests, the remnants of an old dairy farm. Just a few old farm fences and a couple of farm dams remain in the landscape. The dams are a tranquil area to relax, away from the main picnic tables and amenities. You can find the dams near the main entrance to the Dairy and Western Sydney Parklands. These dams are a littleknown, picturesque part of the park where people can get back to nature and find some peace. A lot of photographers visit the spot in the early morning to capture the fog and dew that settles in this lowlying part of the parklands. The Dairy often hosts community, sporting, music and cultural events, and is a hub for the local community and visitors from further afield.
