Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk

Offering visitors to Sydney an opportunity to join in and do what the locals do, the Bondi to Coogee Walk is a popular coastal walk offering beautiful coastline vistas, cosy beaches and cafe strips for refuelling. It is six kilometres long and takes about two hours to complete at a good pace, but why not break it up with a freshly squeezed juice or a relaxed coffee, then finish with a swim at Coogee Beach. The walk passes one of the world's more scenic operational cemeteries, the Waverley Cemetery where graves of famous Australians such as Henry Lawson can be found. The Bondi to Tamarama Beach section of the walk is transformed each spring with the Sculptures by the Sea exhibition. The walk is easy to medium with a steep section and quite a few steps. Don't forget your hat, sunscreen, and some water.

Bondi Icebergs

Perched at the southern end of Bondi Beach, the Bondi Icebergs pool is one of Sydney's most iconic ocean baths and has been a landmark for more than 90 years, with its winter swimming club established in 1929. The tidal pool complex, also known as the Bondi Baths, features a 50-metre lap pool and a smaller children's pool carved into the cliffs, open to the public year-round with qualified lifeguards on duty during opening hours. The sauna is located on the pool deck level, and is included in the price of your pool admission, along with hot shower. Located above the pool, the fully licensed clubhouse, The Bergs Bistro, is open to both members and guests. All visitors are welcome to enjoy sweeping views over the pool and beach as they drink or dine on the sunny balcony.

MacKenzies Beach

Natural Attractions

MacKenzies Beach

MacKenzies Beach is one of the smallest beaches in the state, and it is not always there. None the less its close proximity to dense residential areas makes it a relatively popular beach, when present. MacKenzies is located in a small tuck in the rocks on the south side of Mackenzies Point, 250 m west of the point and 100 m north of Tamarama surf club. At its best it is 50 m long, always backed by rocks and fronted by a rock strewn surf zone, usually containing at least one rip. So swimmers beware. MacKenzies is used by fishers, sunbathers and waders, rather than swimmers.

The Federation Cliff Walk

Historical Sites and Heritage Locations

The Federation Cliff Walk

The Federation Cliff Walk is a popular and unique attraction for its natural beauty and panoramic views out to the ocean. The Federation Cliff Walk is a five-kilometre clifftop walk with postcard views out to the Pacific Ocean from Dover Heights to Watsons Bay. The sandstone cliffs that guard the approaches to Sydney Harbour are one of the city's most dramatic features, and this walking track offers spectacular sea views at every step. Beginning from Raleigh Reserve in Dover Heights, this walkway wanders through parklands close to the edge of the cliffs that overlook the vast blue swathe of the Pacific Ocean. Continue another two kilometres beyond the end of the walk to Watsons Bay, and more sublime views of the harbour. Stop for a seafood lunch in the shade at Robertson Park, beside the pub at Watsons Bay. Along the way, admire the Macquarie Lighthouse, marvel at the dramatic views of The Gap and take a close look at the 80-metre sandstone cliffs at Raleigh Reserve.

Bronte Beach and Baths

Bronte is just over a kilometre's walk south of Bondi. The beach itself faces east and picks up swell from any direction, but bulky headlands to the north and south and clusters of underwater rocks make conditions challenging, especially for swimmers. The south headland shapes Bronte's premium wave, but it breaks across rocks so it's for confident board-riders only. Those same rocks create a sheltered natural pool beloved of parents with young kids, while an ocean-fed lap pool tucked in beneath the south headland provides one of Sydney's finest saltwater swim experiences (free entry). A wide grassy park behind the beach has barbecues and picnic tables and gives way to a wooded gully between rows of expensive houses on the opposing hillsides.
