The Dairy

The Dairy is a peaceful area in Western Sydney Parklands, and a place for a peaceful picnic with views from its hilltop location. The Dairy, at Cowpasture Road and RestwelI Road, Abbotsbury is, as its name suggests, the remnants of an old dairy farm. Just a few old farm fences and a couple of farm dams remain in the landscape. The dams are a tranquil area to relax, away from the main picnic tables and amenities. You can find the dams near the main entrance to the Dairy and Western Sydney Parklands. These dams are a littleknown, picturesque part of the park where people can get back to nature and find some peace. A lot of photographers visit the spot in the early morning to capture the fog and dew that settles in this lowlying part of the parklands. The Dairy often hosts community, sporting, music and cultural events, and is a hub for the local community and visitors from further afield.

Nurragingy Reserve Aboriginal Heritage Garden

Nurragingy Reserve Aboriginal Heritage Garden pays tribute to the important Aboriginal history and heritage of this area of Western Sydney. Opening in 2019, it is still relatively undiscovered - come and see it for yourself! 'Nurragingy' commemorates one of the two men of the Darug/Dharug tribe who received the first Aboriginal land grant from Governor Macquarie in 1819. The other title holder was Colebee, whose name has been given to the Centre within the Reserve. You can see a yarning circle, where people can come together to communicate and speak from the heart, decorated pathways and murals that celebrate Aboriginal culture, plantings indigenous to the region as well as large statues of wood and sandstone carvings by local artists. You'll discover that Aboriginal history is everywhere, particularly significant in the Blacktown region that more than 8,000 Aboriginal people call home. The garden helps preserve and celebrate this history for Blacktown residents and highlights the importance and presence of Aboriginal people in the area. The garden is close to nearby amenities and other interesting parts of Western Sydney Parklands, including the Chinese Garden, Bush Tucker Gardens and large ponds with local water birds. It's located on the corner of Cross Street and Knox Road, Doonside, with car parking nearby. If you're taking public transport, take the 753 bus from Doonside Station.

Fairfield City Museum Gallery

Galleries, Museums and Collections

Fairfield City Museum Gallery

Established in 1983, Fairfield City Museum & Gallery consists of a heritage museum, an art gallery and an exquisite heritage Vintage Village. The Edwardian style museum building has been around since long before the museum was established, with the building being erected in 1913 in Smithfield, Fairfield City's oldest township. Until 1920, the building was used as the Council Chambers of the then Smithfield and Fairfield Municipality. That year the Council found a new home in the commercial centre of Fairfield and the building found new landlords, James and Florence Morris and their daughter Maisie. The house was in their hands until 1980 when the last of the Morris family - Maisie - passed away. Before she died, Maisie made sure her wishes were fulfilled. The house would be transformed into a museum. After some successful lobbying by the Fairfield Historical Society, Fairfield City Council bought the property in 1980. Three years later, in 1983 the Fairfield City Museum was a reality. In the next few years, the place grew with the addition of buildings at the rear of the site. Nowadays, the Fairfield City Museum & Gallery comprises three different sections. Apart from the 1913 museum building, the place has experienced a major development with the addition of the Stein Gallery and the nostalgic Vintage Village.

St Bartholomews Church and Cemetery

Historical Sites and Heritage Locations

St Bartholomews Church and Cemetery

St Bartholomew's Church was the first church to open in Prospect in 1841, as a result of early explorer William Lawson's push for it to be built. Today his vault, along with many other pioneer graves can be viewed. The Church operated until 1967 when, after an attack of vandalism, it was closed. In 1989 fire gutted the Church, destroying the 1850s organ and the 1908 furniture. It was restored in 2000, and in 2001, Blacktown City Council purchased it from the Anglican Property Trust. The Church is of Colonial Georgian design, being a rectangular brick structure with a nave, chancel and two vestries. The main entrance is through the bell tower at the front, which has a square base with an octagonal belfry.
