Pinjarra Suspension Bridge

The Pinjarra Suspension Bridge is one of the town's iconic landmarks and a favourite photo spot. This pedestrian bridge spans the Murray River, linking Pinjarra's town centre to the eastern side and offering a scenic place to pause above the water. On the western side of the bridge is Bindjareb Maar, a community-led art installation, that honours the culture of the local indigenous, the Bindjareb people. At night the Suspension Bridges illuminates, showing off a vibrant display of ever-changing lights, becoming a gorgeous backdrop to any event held along the Murray River Foreshore. Just a short work from Cantwell Park, and located beside the newly redeveloped Exchange Hotel Pinjarra, the iconic bridge is also a stop along the Pinjarra Heritage Walk Trail.

Serpentine River Paddling Trails

The Serpentine River is one of three rivers flowing into the Peel-Harvey Estuary which is twice the size of Sydney Harbour and provides a habitat to many species of fauna and flora, including black swans, ospreys, wild dolphins and blue manna crabs. Known as "Waangaamaap Bilya" by the Noongar people, it has helped feed families and sustain life throughout millennia. The All-Abilities Paddle Launch at Riverside Gardens offers an accessible option for people with a disability to enjoy the Serpentine River in a canoe or kayak. It provides a large floating platform with contrasting colours, kick plates, grab rails and ramp access. There is a specially designed step seating option for people to transition from a seated position into a watercraft whilst using the grab handles for support. Two custom slipways ensure a safe entry and exit into the Serpentine River for all paddlers. ACROD parking, accessible toilets, and barbeque facilities are also available at the launch site. The All-Abilities Paddle Launch is also an ideal staging-off point for experienced kayakers. Both the half-day Heron Paddling Trail and The Spoonbill Paddling Trail (part of the wider Peel-Harvey Estuary Paddle Trails network) can be accessed from this point. Marrinup Trails, Dwellingup

Marrinup State Forest surrounds the former town of Marrinup, where a timber mill operated until the 1930's. Destroyed in the 1961 bushfires, the original townsite is now a nature-based camping area, with trails from the Dwellingup Adventure Trails network weaving through the surrounding forest. There's a rich history beneath the trees. During World War II, Italian and German prisoners of war were held here, cutting timber for Perth before being sent to farms across Western Australia. While the buildings have long disappeared, scattered foundations and remnants offer a glimpse into the past. Today, the shared-use World Away Trail (1.3km) links the campground to the Marrinup Prisoner of War Camp Walk Trail (1.6km), as well as a broader network of mountain bike trails. The Marrinup Circuit (7.7km), one of Western Australia's original hand built, technical cross-country rides, winds through native jarrah forest and redgum. The trail varies from narrow, challenging tracks with flat sections and hill climbs to true gravel roads, with the ball-bearing-like bauxite gravel making for interesting mountain biking. Tucked away in the bush nearby, the Marrinup Falls Walk Trail (1.3km) reveals granite outcrops, seasonal wildflowers and a small waterfall best seen flowing in winter and early spring. Just under 10 minutes from Dwellingup, Marrinup blends easy trails and rich history, with the comforts of town and local cafés not far away.

Osprey Waters - Peel Inlet Paddle Trail

With 134 square kilometres of calm inland waterways, Mandurah is the ultimate water playground and a true paddler's paradise. The Osprey Trail is part of the wider Peel Harvey Estuary Paddle Trail network exploring the shallow Peel Inlet (commonly referred to as 'the estuary') which stretches from Mandurah's Estuary Bridge to the Dawesville Cut. Both the Peel Inlet and the Harvey Estuary to its south are listed under the Ramsar Convention as a wetland ecosystem of international significance. There are frequent sightings of Ospreys, Dolphins and Black Swans along the trail so keep your binoculars on hand. Osprey Waters Foreshore Reserve, where the paddle trail commences, is roughly two kilometres from the Mandurah city centre and provides a great starting point for the exploration of the northern part of the Peel Inlet and the canals of nearby Mariners Cove. Setting off from the Estuary Bridge at Osprey Waters, the Osprey Trail follows the foreshore through Sticks Channel before returning around Boundary Island which provides a good spot for a rest. Paddling this trail is an enjoyable experience all year round but perhaps most optimal during the cooler months, when tides are at their highest.

Mandurah Estuary and Peel Inlet

The Mandurah Estuary and Peel Inlet is a large system of shallow estuarine and saline, brackish and freshwater lakes and covers 134 square kilometres - twice the size of Sydney Harbour! The estuary is comprised of the Peel Inlet which is connected to the Indian Ocean via the Dawesville Channel in Mandurah and the Harvey Estuary further south. In 1990, The Peel Harvey Estuary was listed under the Ramsar Convention as a wetland and ecosystem of international significance. The Mandurah Estuary and Peel Inlet is regarded as one of Australia's most spectacular playgrounds for boating, fishing and wildlife watching. Take to the water by hiring a boat, houseboat, kayak, canoe, jet ski or hop on a cruise. A dolphin-watching tour will also give you the chance to see one of Australia's healthiest populations of dolphins. Tens of thousands of waterbirds, including large numbers of migrant shorebirds from the northern hemisphere, use the estuary and lakes each year. The sheltered waters also provide a safe place to fish. Cast a line from the jetties or landings under the bridges to chase Herring, Sand Whiting, Bream and Tailor. Catch river Prawns in early summer, fish for King Prawns in autumn or go crabbing during late summer and autumn to scoop the famous blue swimmer crab. Or for a bigger catch, join a deep-sea fishing charter.
