Venman Bushland National Park

Venman Bushland National Park is a tranquil portion of bushland on Tingalpa Creek abounding in wildlife: koalas, possums, gliders and wallabies. In spring, wildflowers bloom. These 255 acres were sold to the government for one dollar in 1971 by a farmer with a dream of preserving wildlife and its habitat. Jack Venman (who still lived next door on the rest of his property) then devoted the rest of his life to improving the area for others. Two walking tracks take you to the creek. Listen for the tunes of birds, especially the deep call of the powerful owl and try to glimpse this rarely seen bird. Enjoy a picnic or cook your lunch on a wood-fired barbecue (firewood supplied).

Pimpama & Ormeau War Memorial

Historical Sites and Heritage Locations

Pimpama and Ormeau War Memorial

In church grounds at Pimpama, halfway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, stands a stone memorial-a soldier statue, his head bowed, hands crossed and resting on his rifle, a tree trunk supporting him. It is, in fact, a replica of the original which was unveiled in 1919 following a public subscription. The original stood in the cemetery of Pimpama Uniting (previously Methodist) Church, a tribute to the seven local men who had died in WWI. It was produced by AL Petrie and Son of Toowong, the largest masonry firm in Queensland at the time; responsible for many WWI memorials. A series of relocations within the property have occurred, the most recent in 1993, when the replica was commissioned. This facsimile, positioned facing the Pacific Highway, was unveiled on ANZAC Day 1995. The old digger, which was in poor condition, was relocated to Miles Historical Village.

Rage Cage Smash Rooms

Rage Cage Smash Room is the only place in Brisbane where you can go and release all your frustrations by smashing up microwaves, TVs, glassware, and printers. Wearing full protective clothing and taking part in specially prepared rooms so there's no chance of injury, punters can let loose, vent their anger and built-up stress in a safe private environment. These rooms allow you to take a bat to a bottle; a sledgehammer to a TV; throw a plate against the wall; or throw a coffee cup up like a baseball and swing at it. Completely safe and now recommended by therapists worldwide, this is the safest place to “get it out”, or just come for giggles. Children under 18 are permitted into the Rage Cage Smash Room facility. However, if you are under 18, you must participate with supervision and consent of a parent or legal guardian.
