It is claimed the sound could be heard from seven miles (11.2 kilometres) away. Bullock bells were a necessity in early pioneering days to find the team of bullocks who had strayed from camp after being unyoked overnight as vast areas of land were unfenced. They remain an important piece of history in the Condamine area. Grab a tasty burger and a cold drink from the roadhouse across the road to enjoy in the shade of the park's covered tables.

Warra Mine Site

Warra was the site of the first Government-owned and operated coal mine in Queensland. Originally commenced in 1914 by the Smokeless Coal Syndicate and then sold to the State Government in 1915. The mine supplied coal for the Western line locomotives. The venture was unsuccessful, and the mine closed in 1919 due to water seepage. The old mine entrance is marked by a silhouette structure which is able to be viewed from the Warrego Highway. Alternatively, take a break at the Richard Best Memorial Park and take a leisurely stroll around the area. In 1868 the Western railway line reached Dalby, and seven years later the government approved its extension north-westwards. The railway to Warra was opened two years later.
