What to expect
Discover panoramic views, gold mining history and wartime stories at Towers Hill, one of the must-see attractions in Charters Towers. Located just minutes from the historic CBD, Towers Hill offers sweeping views across Charters Towers and the surrounding landscape from the lookout, making it a popular spot for sightseeing, walking, photography, wildlife and watching an outback sunset. The hill has strong links to the region's gold mining past, being the location where gold was first discovered and historic remains scattered throughout the landscape. During the Second World War, Towers Hill also became an important military site, and visitors can explore the surviving World War II bunkers and learn more about the role Charters Towers played during the war. Bring the history to life with the Towers Hill World War II Augmented Reality Experience, which uses your mobile device to reveal stories and scenes from the wartime era as you explore the site. As evening falls, stay for Ghosts After Dark at the Towers Hill Amphitheatre, an outdoor film experience sharing the history, stories, people and events that helped shape Charters Towers. Whether you come for the history, walking trails, WWII bunkers, spectacular views or sunset, Towers Hill is one of the essential things to do when visiting Charters Towers and a fascinating place to discover another side of the region's story.
