About this place
What to expect
Among the many spectacular dive sites surrounding Lady Elliot Island, The Blowhole stands out as one of the most dramatic. Located on the eastern side of the island, this impressive L-shaped cave begins on the reef top and exits through the reef wall. Large enough to accommodate a full boatload of divers, the cave starts at around 14 metres before descending into a dark chamber a further eight metres below. Inside, divers are surrounded by shimmering schools of baitfish and glassfish. Hidden within the cave's darker recesses are squirrelfish, crayfish, shrimps and wobbegongs, while the cave entrance is a favourite gathering place for batfish, trevally, sweetlips and coral trout. Emerging from the cave, divers can explore a vibrant coral wall teeming with marine life. Reef sharks, turtles and even the occasional manta ray are regularly spotted cruising these crystal-clear waters. Offering an unforgettable combination of underwater adventure, fascinating marine life and unique reef formations, The Blowhole is a must-dive experience for visitors to Lady Elliot Island.
