About this place
What to expect
Maori Wrasse Bommie off Lady Elliot Island gets its name from the family of Maori wrasse that regularly hang around the area and aren't shy about making an appearance. Sitting in depths of 14 to 18 metres, this site is a favourite for intermediate divers. Reef sharks often cruise the reef wall and arches near the bommie, while nearby Spiders Ledge is named for the collection of shells scattered across the outcrop. Keep your eyes peeled among the coral and overhangs. You might spot a shy barramundi cod tucked away in a hidey-hole or catch a flash of a brightly coloured clown triggerfish darting through the reef. And don't spend the whole dive looking straight ahead. Around here, there's always something poking its head out, swimming past or hiding in plain sight.
