What to expect
Manta Ray Bommie is not just a single coral bommie, but a collection of coral formations off the western side of Lady Musgrave Island. Scattered across depths of 12 to 20 metres, the larger bommies are decorated with colourful gorgonians, soft corals and sponges, creating a thriving underwater habitat. Schools of goatfish, angelfish, butterflyfish, sweetlip and parrotfish are regular residents, while turtles, stingrays and reef sharks are commonly spotted cruising through the area. The real stars of the show, however, are the manta rays. Watch as these gentle giants hover above the largest bommies, lining up for a clean from swarms of tiny cleaner wrasse. It's one of those dives where you'll spend half your time admiring the reef and the other half wondering what might glide into view next.
