About this place

What to expect

This track runs right next to Uluṟu and offers close encounters with the rock's textures and stunning geological features. Linking the Kuniya Walk to the Mala carpark, Lungkaṯa is one of the most visually diverse sections of the base walk. Here, Uluṟu's sloping sides meet the path, revealing elevated caves and crevices carved by millennia of wind and water. These formations shelter thousands of birds, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. If you're lucky, you might hear the paṉpaṉpalala birds singing. Paṉpaṉpalala are ancestral that play a part in the Lungkaṯa creation story. Along the way, learn about Lungkaṯa, the cheeky blue-tongue lizard man, and why Tjukurpa teaches not to steal from others. For a quieter experience, visit at dusk for a front-row view of the rock glowing red as the sun sets. You'll feel its warmth emanating from the rocks as the horizon fades. Tip: Park near the Mala carpark and bring binoculars or a long lens to spot birds nesting high in the caves. The Lungkaṯa Walk closes for the day from 2 pm when the forecast or actual temperature reaches 40 degrees Celsius and above. Grade 1-2 | 4 km return | 1 hour 30 minutes | wheelchair accessible (dry weather only) To enter the park you'll need a park pass, which you can pre-purchase online for quick and easy entry.
