About this place

What to expect

Located between Mt Lovick and King Billy One, Lovick's Hut is one of the original mountain cattlemen's huts, built in 1960 by Jack Lovick and used for many years by the Lovick family as a base for horse trail rides. Rebuilt in 2014-2015, the hut is in a secluded and picturesque area offering a grassy camping spot surrounded by snow gums with access to adjacent horse yards. Hikers can access the hut from the east from the direction of Mt Howitt, while horseriders and four-wheel-drive vehicles can head over from the Bluff. Lovick's Hut is accessed via the four-wheel-drive Bluff Track or Cairn Creek Track off Brocks Road. Not accessible to two-wheel-drive vehicles. Please note access by vehicle is not possible from early June to November due to seasonal track closures in the High Country. Seasonal closures generally operate from the King's Birthday long weekend in June through to the beginning of November but may be extended due to seasonal conditions. Most tracks reopen on the Friday prior to Melbourne Cup Day long weekend. Contact the Mansfield Visitor Information Centre for more details.
