About this place
What to expect
Just off the western side of Lady Elliot Island, you'll find a cluster of small coral outcrops known as Lighthouse Bommies. Descend the mooring line and drift across the bommies to discover an incredible array of marine life. Batfish, stingrays, white-spotted shovelnose rays, green and loggerhead turtles, sea snakes, moray eels, coral trout, reef sharks, trevally and barracuda are all regular visitors. If you're lucky, you might even spot a manta ray stopping by for a clean from the local wrasse. Keep your eyes peeled around the sandy patches and coral ledges too. Leopard sharks and tasselled wobbegong sharks are often found resting among the bommies. With so much marine life packed into one area, Lighthouse Bommies is the kind of dive site where there's always something worth looking twice at.
