About this place
What to expect
Just minutes from the historic streets of Beechworth, Beechworth Historic Park blends gold rush heritage, scenic lookouts and outdoor adventure in the heart of Victoria's High Country. Explore a network of walking and cycling trails through former goldfields, forested gullies and granite-studded landscapes that tell the story of the miners who flocked to the area in the 1850s. Discover historic sites including the Powder Magazine, old mining works and waterways that once powered one of Victoria's richest goldfields. Take a walk or scenic drive to One Tree Hill and The Precipice for sweeping views across the surrounding countryside and the former Reids Creek goldfields. After rain, The Cascades waterfall is a spectacular sight, while the park's striking granite formations create memorable photo opportunities. The park is also a haven for wildlife and nature lovers. Wander among stringybark forests, native cypress pines and seasonal wildflowers while keeping watch for kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, koalas, echidnas and colourful birdlife. Perfect for families, walkers, cyclists and history enthusiasts, the park offers everything from gentle lakeside strolls near Lake Sambell to longer bushwalks through peaceful forest landscapes. Visitors can also experience a taste of the gold rush by fossicking in approved areas. Beechworth Historic Park is part of an Aboriginal cultural landscape, recognising the deep and continuing connection Traditional Owners have to Country.
